The Natural Capital Initiative: Making natural capital count
The Natural Capital Initiative (NCI) engages scientists, businesses and policy-makers to find real world, practical solutions to pressing environmental issues in the UK. NCI was founded in 2009 and is a partnership project of four eminent UK science organisations: the Royal Society of Biology, the British Ecological Society, the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and the James Hutton Institute.
NCI is operated day to day by a secretariat, constituted of one representative from each of these organisations, and facilitated by a part-time Project Officer; it is overseen by a Steering Group; and constituted as a special interest group of the RSB.
NCI activities aim to increase the practical application of natural capital science by businesses and policymakers as well as highlighting key gaps in the scientific knowledge.
