Opportunities within the BES
The BES understands the importance of providing opportunities for development and growth, which is why we regularly offer internships in our Policy and Education departments.
There are a number of executive committees which provide an integral service to the strategy of the Society; the members of these committees are chosen for their personal experience in specific fields, their enthusiasm and willingness to drive the Society forward.
As the BES is an evolving Society, staff vacancies occasionally arise; although these opportunities will be advertised externally, they will also be posted here.
Any new opportunities occurring within any department of the BES will be advertised in this section below:
Policy Assistant: Eight-month contract, 0.4 FTE, £19,000 pro rata
Closing Date: 9.00am, Tuesday 6th April
Interviews: Tuesday 20th April
The BES is currently seeking a Policy Assistant to provide support to the Policy Officer. The post will be based at the Society's offices in Central London.
The post is offered on a part-time basis (0.4 FTE) and is fixed term, for eight months.
Duties include:
- Monitor legislation and policy developments relevant to the science of ecology
- Assist with the preparation of policy statements, briefing papers and responses to Government consultations
- Help with the organisation of policy meetings and a parliamentary reception
- Maintain and update the BES website, including writing and sourcing copy
- Keep all BES audiences up to date with BES developments, including contribution to theBES Bulletin, forums and the Ecology and Policy Blog
- Help with administrative tasks
Skills and qualifications required:
- Graduate
- Knowledge or interest in ecology
- Knowledge or interest in public policy
- Excellent communication skills
- Good IT skills, preferably with experience of maintaining webpages and blogs
