Effects of acid rain on Arctic tundra

Despite the remoteness of the region, global climate patterns result in the Arctic receiving a great deal of atmospheric pollution, which has travelled long distances from Europe and North America.

Ecologists are studying the effects on acid rain on Arctic tundra. By demonstrating that even very small amounts of pollution are damaging to this very fragile ecosystem, we can contribute evidence which helps to persuade governments to set targets for reducing pollutant emissions by industry and transport
