Bioschool Website
by Susan Barker
Bioschool are three teachers (Gary Skinner, Ann Skinner and Richard Sinclair) with, between them, 50 years of experience of teaching Biology in state and independent schools, sixth form colleges and further education colleges. They have recently established a website
http://www.bioschool.co.uk/
where teachers will find;
- Reviews of websites for Biology teaching
- Images which teachers can use in their own teaching (with no copyright problems)
- Short movie clips (usually mpeg compressed files) which are again copyright free
- Power point presentations which are customisable once teachers have downloaded them
- Virtual labs ¤ the implementation of practical procedures for use as an addition to, or a substitute for, real practical work
- Virtual tour ¤ virtual field visits to popular sites such as woodland, sand dunes and rocky shores. Students can view the sites and click on hotspots which will take them into selected areas for further study.
Happily, Bioschool do not see the site as a money making venture. All the material on the site can be downloaded and customised by teachers to fit their own needs. However, they do ask you to visit the site (which they will update frequently), give them feedback and, hopefully, your own ideas if appropriate. They also have the necessary resources for making digital movies, images, etc and would be very happy to receive suggestions for resources so that they could produce them for you. There will be an understanding, however, that any such material would go up on the site for others to use as well. So send your comments, suggestions, feedback etc to Bioschool at:
