Pre-dispersal insect seed predation in Austrocedrus chilensis (D. Don) Fl. et Bout. in NW Patagonia: testing the roles of the environment and tree association on predation impact
José M. Villacide & Juan C. Corley
Introduction (Excerpt)
More than 50% of the known species of insects feed on plants (Speight et al 1999), but not all plants are equally attacked by insects. The type of plant tissue attacked, the degree by which the prey upon and the consequences on plant growth and reproduction varies largely both between and within species of plants and insects. Even for a given insect-plant interaction, local biotic and abiotic conditions may affect predation intensity (Rand 1999).
Short title: Pre-dispersal seed predation in A. chilensis Key words: pre-dispersal seed predation, seed eating insects, Austrocedrus chilensis, Patagonia.
