The Annual Symposium will run from the morning of Monday 5 April to the afternoon of Wednesday 7 April 2004.
The booking form must be accompanied by full payment and no accommodation or meals will be reserved without it. If your institution is issuing a cheque for payment do not rely on your finance office to forward your booking form to the BES. On many occasions finance officers have failed to send us forms which results in obvious problems. When the BES receives your booking form it will be processed and a letter of confirmation plus joining instructions will be sent to you as soon as possible. You should keep a copy of the completed form for your records. Send your booking form by one method only, do not send copies via both mail and fax. Online booking will be available via the BES website. Check your booking confirmation carefully to ensure that all the meals and accommodation that you require have been booked.
Students who have completed the application form and been awarded support are liable for only 50% of the cost of meals, accommodation and registration. The scheme covers standard accommodation only. There are limited funds available for this grant and applications will be dealt with on a first-come-first-served basis. Early application is strongly recommended. Applications must be made on the form available from the BES office or website and the deadline for receipt is 9 February 2004.
If you wish to attend the meeting you must complete and return a booking form. Booking forms must be returned by 8 March 2004 at the latest. Please note that places are limited and early booking is advised.
Members of the BES are eligible for a reduced registration fee. If non-members complete and return a membership form with payment of subscription fees for 2004 at the same time as returning the booking form for this meeting they are also eligible for the reduced registration fee. Membership of the BES costs only £30 per year (£15 for student/retired/reduced rate) and gives great benefits like cheap journal subscriptions as well as a reduced registration fee for the Annual Meeting. Membership forms are available from the BES office or the website. The conference dinner is a fixed menu and the price includes a half bottle of wine. Accommodation is in halls of residence and the cost of accommodation includes breakfast. Dinner will be served in the hall of residence where delegates have their accommodation.
The number of standard rooms is limited. If we are unable to book you into the accommodation category of your choice we will reserve accommodation in the alternative category and inform you of our actions in the letter of confirmation. If you have paid by credit card we will automatically correct the total payment to the adjusted cost. If you have paid by cheque we will issue credit or request additional payment at the registration desk during the meeting. There are a very small number of ensuite double rooms available - please contact the BES office for details.
If you want to join the BES and take advantage of the reduced registration rate you must mail a hard copy of the booking form and a membership application form to the BES - you cannot book and join online to take advantage of this offer.
If you would like to present a poster at the meeting you should tick the appropriate box on the form. Abstracts must be submitted by 1 March 2004 via the BES website. You will be advised if your abstract has been accepted by email.
Any queries regarding the Annual Meeting should be directed to the BES office. The full programme of talks with abstracts will be available on this web site by the end of October.British Ecological Society, 26 Blades Court, Deodar Road, Putney, London SW15 2NU, UKt: +44 (0)20 8871 9797 f: +44 (0)20 8871 9779, email meetings@BritishEcologicalSociety.org
