Travel details to the BES Annual Symposium
Edinburgh has excellent transport links with the UK and with Europe. A taxi rank is located inside the station next to Platform 11. GNER trains leave London Kings Cross for Edinburgh every hour with a journey time scheduled at slightly under 4.5 hours. Tickets can be booked online through the GNER web site at www.gner.co.uk, or by telephone on 0845 7225225. Virgin trains provide direct cross-country services to many other cities in England. By Coach/BusCoaches arrive in St Andrews Square located almost directly across Princes St from the Waverley Train Station. There are frequent services from London Victoria Bus Station to Edinburgh. By AirEdinburgh Airport (0870 0400007) has direct flights to most UK airports and to most European capitals. In addition, Continental Airlines provides a regular service from Newark, New Jersey direct to Edinburgh for travellers from North America. A taxi from the airport to the University should cost about £25 depending on the time of day. Lothian Region Transport operates a frequent Airline bus from the airport to Waverley train stations (£5 return fare). British Airways and British Midland fly between Edinburgh and London Heathrow (BA also has flights to London Gatwick). Advance purchase fares from these airlines are usually around £70 but these are seldom available at peak times. British European flies between London City Airport and Edinburgh. A number of low cost airlines provide services to Edinburgh. Easyjet (www.easyjet.com) operates services to Edinburgh from London Luton, London Stansted and other UK regional airports. Flybe (www.flybe.com) operates services between Birmingham and Edinburgh. Advance purchase fares are available from as little as £35 return fare if booked well in advance. A similar fare is also available from Dublin or Belfast to Edinburgh. In addition, Continental Airlines provides a regular service from Newark, New Jersey direct to Edinburgh.
