Special Symposium 2005

Body size and the organisation and function of aquatic ecosystems

2-4 September 2005, University of Hertfordshire, UK

This international symposium, organised by the Aquatic Ecology Group of the BES and held jointly with the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) asks ‘Does size matter?

THE BOOKING DEADLINE HAS NOW PASSED.

To examine this question fifteen experts in their field, from around the world, will be meeting in 2005 at the University of Hertfordshire de Havilland campus to cover subject matter such as Body size, scaling and organisation (Joel Cohen, Rockefeller & Columbia); Size-structured interactions (Lennart Persson, Umea) and Patterns in aquatic food webs (Neo Martinez, Cornell). It is an exciting list of speakers including plenty of home grown talent!  The full programme will be available in spring 2005.

Speakers are by invitation only but delegates are welcome to submit abstracts for posters.

The Symposium is being held immediately before the BES Annual Meeting at the same venue.  The Annual Meeting is Europe's largest annual meeting of ecologists. There will be plenary lectures plus sessions on all aspects of pure, applied and theoretical, botanical, zoological, terrestrial and aquatic ecology. The programme will include a thematic session on 'Freshwater diversity: ecosystem functioning, invasive species and conservation' organised jointly with the FBA.

If you want to present a poster or give a talk at the Annual Meeting you must submit your abstract by 6 June 2005 via the BES website. If you want to present the same poster at the Symposium and the Annual Meeting you must submit it twice. THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION HAS PASSED.
