Enhancing Fieldwork Learning

‘Enhancing Fieldwork Learning’ is a cross-disciplinary Higher Education Academy funded project which aims to promote ways to enhance student learning during fieldwork through the use of technology.  Pedagogy rather than technology drives our objectives.

We engage primarily with Geography, Earth, Environmental and Biosciences but are keen to engage with any aligned disciplines whether in the UK or overseas.  Our focus is on using affordable, ubiquitous technologies such as iPads, digital cameras and social networks to address a series of problems that may arise during fieldwork such as lack of student engagement or logistical issues such as limited connectivity.

We actively seek fieldwork practitioners to share their practice in the form of case studies and/or to engage with a range of workshops and events. Our 1st Showcase Event was a residential weekend held in FSC Margam Park in September 2011 and proved to be a huge success with over 25 practitioners from 16 partner institutions attending, demonstrating technology and participating in field-based activities.

We are planning a second Showcase Event from 14th-16th September 2012 at FSC Preston Montford, Shropshire. Please visit our website to find out ways in which you can get involved!
