All Health and Safety regulations for Local Education Authorities must be checked and abided by

Safety of the children is paramount when conducting field experiments or surveys. If thought through properly and addressed correctly nearly all health and safety issues can be overcome. Most issues can be identified and resolved at the planning stage of the pond.

However risk assessments will need to be completed before any experimental or surveys are conducted. Focusing on:

  • Environmental conditions at the time
  • Status of the pond
  • What to do in an emergency

The FSC and ROSPA are highly recommended resources. They have very good guidance for planning and completing risk assessments available online.
