Propose an Annual Meeting Thematic Topic
The BES has established special thematic topics into the programme for the Annual Meeting. These thematic topics aim to provide a forum for the discussion of timely and/or important questions, occasionally to provide local ‘flavour’ within the programme, and to encourage integration between disciplines.
Each session contains a 40 minute presentation by the principal speaker nominated by the topic coordinator. Each topic is allocated £1,000 to help with speaker expenses, including registration fees. In many cases, this enables international keynote speakers to be invited. The coordinator is also expected to solicit other papers for the topic, but delegates will also be free to submit unsolicited abstracts for the topics. Coordinators are responsible for deciding on which presentations should be included in the thematic topic session, ordering the presentations within the topic, ensuring speakers submit their abstracts, ensuring speakers book for the meeting and also for chairing the session.
The Meetings Committee welcomes suggestions for Thematic Topics. If you would like to put forward a proposal for the 2014 Annual Meeting in Lille, France, please email Richard English no later than 1 June 2013.
The proposal should contain:
- The proposed title of the topic
- Name, address and e-mail of Proposer
- Name, address and e-mail of Session Organiser (if different from Proposer)
- A brief summary of the subject area (250 words MAX)
- Justification for organising as a Thematic Topic (250 words MAX)
- Name of proposed keynote speaker plus provisional talk title
- Names and general areas of talk titles of FIVE other potential speakers
The minimum length of a session is one 40 minute presentation and five 20 minute talks.
