Getting Involved

Ecological Genetics Group

Secretary: Paul Ashton

Aims:

EGG is an informal group of scientists; academics, researchers and graduate students, whose interests include ecological genetics, populations genetics & population biology, biosystematics, conservation, molecular ecology and phylogeography. The group has a three-day meeting at Easter each year (venue varies) including an excursion to a field site of interest, usually preceded by an optional workshop. Talks are welcomed from students giving their first presentation, to senior academics presenting completed work.

Future Activities

54th Ecological Genetics Group Meeting, University of Stirling, 6-8 April 2010

Please note: Registration for this years EGG has now closed.

The 54th meeting of the Ecological Genetics Group will be hosted at the University of Stirling on 6th-8th April 2010 and organised by Dr. Cecile Bacles. We are pleased to announce that our guest speakers at EGG 2010 will be Professor Laurent Excoffier (University of Bern) and Professor Richard Abbott (St. Andrews). Richard Abbott has made a lifetime study of the plant genus Senecio, producing a large body of widely respected work which incorporates almost the full range of subjects regularly covered in EGG conferences. Laurent Excoffier is primarily a population geneticist but this incorporates an astoundingly wide range of subjects including utilising computational methods to understand evolutionary processes at the population and species level, complex demography on the molecular genetic diversity of a species and the analysis of gene expression data in various fish species.

The excursion on the second day will be to RSPB Vane Farm reserve where the Bumblebee Conservation Trust has a meadow.

Marvellous as our guest speakers will undoubtedly be, as always at EGG the conference is made by the contributions of all of the delegates.
