Honorary Membership

Honorary Membership of the Society

Honorary membership of the BES is the highest honour that the Society gives. The primary criterion for honorary membership is a lifetime’s achievement in the science of ecology or its application. Other criteria, such as service to the BES, may be brought into play but would not normally merit the award without at least a very strong scientific record. The number of Honorary Members at anyone time is limited to approximately 1% of the total membership of the Society. The Society’s Council is responsible for nominating and awarding honorary membership but BES members are welcome to put forward suggestions.

Council welcomes suggestions for Honorary Membership of the Society. Nominations must be made using the nomination form, received by 15 October and sent to info@britishecologicalsociety.org

The nomination form should contain a brief statement on the nominees’ research interests, their contribution to the science of ecology, their status in the biological community and key publications.

Nominators must be a current member of the BES.
