Meetings Grants
The BES has long since recognised that helping ecologists meet and collaborate is an important tool in furthering the science of ecology. Along with the regular BES and BES specialist group meetings run each year the BES also provides various forms of sponsorship for those wishing to attend or run Ecological conferences and Workshops.
At the BES meeting the registration, accommodation and meals are heavily subsidised by the BES in order to encourage those who might not otherwise be able to attend.
In addition the BES provides a travel grant scheme from those ecologists in developing countries to not only attend the BES Annual Meeting or Symposium for free but also to have their costs covered whilst being hosted at a centre of learning in the UK. This hosting is intended to encourage collaborations and to allow ecologists from developing countries access to laboratories and resources that they may be lacking access to in their own institutes.
Aside from the support that the BES provided to BES student members through the registration discounts at BES meetings, BES student members can apply for student support for attendance at other relevant ecological conferences including BES Specialist group run meetings.
The BES also has a scheme in place to support BES members (including students) to attend events for which the Society has elected to provide support through its Attendance at Ecological Conferences, Symposia and Workshops scheme.
Communicating Ecological Science to the public through events is also important part of sharing the results of ecology as well as encouraging the future generations of ecologists, the Public Engagement Grant has been set up in order to fund such meetings and events.
