Grants and Awards

Public Policy Grants and Awards

The British Ecological Society provides grants with the aim of supporting ecological research and training as widely as possible. For this reason, the individual awards are generally of relatively small value, although many awards are made. In recent years over £400,000 per annum has been awarded through the Society's grants. Public Policy is responsible for awarding the following grants:

Ecological Engagement Award

The Ecological Engagement Award is made annually to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to facilitating the use and understanding of ecology.

Ecology into Policy Grant (EIPG)

The Ecology Into Policy Grant provides up to £5000 to enable researchers to produce draft protocols or full systematic reviews. The review will help ensure that decisions on environmental management and policy matters are made in the light of the best available scientific evidence.

Public Engagement Grant

The Public Engagement Grant provides up to £2000 to individuals and organisations wishing to organise events that will engage the public with exciting and important aspects of ecology.

The Post Fellowship

Under this grant The British Ecological Society sponsors a Fellowshipat the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) for 2nd or 3rd year PhD students in ecology.
