The BES is pleased to announce the launch of online manuscript submission and peer review for Journal of Ecology, Journal of Animal Ecology, Journal of Applied Ecology and Functional Ecology.

Online submission and review represents a whole new way of working for the British Ecological Society journals and brings many benefits, including:

1. Straightforward and rapid submission of manuscripts.
2. Immediate availability of manuscripts to reviewers for viewing online or downloading.
3. Online Reviewer Report Forms for sending comments directly to the Editorial Office.
4. All communication by email.
5. Savings in time and mailing costs for Authors and Reviewers.
6. Increased accessibility to the BES editorial office from all over the world.
7. All-round increase in decision speeds, shorter handling time and decreased publication time.

We are confident that this move will have advantages for all those involved in working with the Journals and therefore hope that all our contacts will work with us through the transition. Those who have recently reviewed for or submitted manuscripts to one of the BES Journals will have their contact details pre-loaded into the database of our Electronic Editorial Office and will be contacted with a username and password, plus instructions.
