Types of papers

Functional Ecology publishes 4 types of papers:

Standard Papers

A standard paper is a typical experimental, comparative or theoretical paper. Though we do not impose length restrictions on papers, we do require that papers make appropriate use of the space words, figures and tables included in the paper. Typically papers are no more than 10 typeset pages in length.

Review papers

Review papers are syntheses of topics of broad ecological interest.  The editors are willing to advise authors on suitable topics for review in advance of submission.

Perspectives

Perspective papers are short articles presenting new ideas (without data) intended to stimulate scientific debate.

Special features

The special features in Functional Ecology are collections of manuscripts, typically reviews or perspectives, on a single theme. These are usually invited by the editors but suggestions for new special features are always welcome. The editor responsible for special features is Professor Charles Fox, who can be contacted at fox@uky.edu
