Types of Papers

Journal of Ecology seeks to publish original papers that break new ground or significantly advance the field and offer insights into issues of general interest to an international ecological audience.

We welcome submissions in the following sections:

Aquatic plant ecology, Determinants of plant community diversity and structure, Dispersal, Ecological genetics and ecogenomics, Ecophysiology, Epidemiology, Habitat fragmentation, Invasion ecology, Paleoecology and land-use history, Plant development and life-history traits, Plant population and community dynamics, Plant-climate interactions, Plant-herbivore interactions, Plant-plant interactions, Plant-soil (belowground) interactions, Reproductive ecology.

Standard Papers

Standard Papers report practical or theoretical ecological research and typically comprise up to 12 typeset pages. Longer articles are also considered, if the content justifies the extent.

Essay Reviews

Rather than offering an exhaustive literature survey, Essay Reviews are intended to promote the discussion of a topical area that is of general interest to the readership. The Editors are happy to discuss topics for such articles with authors before submission.

Forum Papers

Forum Papers are designed to stimulate scientific debate. Contributions may be short articles presenting new ideas (without data), opinions or responses to material published in the Journal.

Future Direction Papers

Future Direction Papers briefly outline a provocative new direction for a subdiscipline in plant ecology and intend to challenge currently accepted views. The Editors are happy to discuss topics for such articles with authors before submission.

Biological Flora of the British Isles

Biological Flora articles are a utecological accounts of plant species.All offers of new contributions should be addressed to the Biological Flora Editor, Professor Anthony J. Davy (a.davy@uea.ac.uk)
