IEEM is the professional body that represents and supports ecologists and environmental managers in the UK, Ireland and abroad. It provides a variety of services to develop competency and standards in ecology and environmental management. Established in 1991, IEEM has over 4,000 members drawn from local authorities, government agencies, industry, environmental consultancy, teaching/research, and NGOs.
The Darwin Correspondence Project, which includes amongst its sponsors the British Ecological Society, is dedicated to publishing the definitive edition of letters to and from Charles Darwin (1809-1882). Begun in 1974 by Frederick Burkhardt and Sydney Smith, it has to date produced eighteen out of thirty projected volumes.
