Information for Oral Presenters
Presentations should not exceed 20 minutes (unless you are a keynote speaker) and we expect you to speak for 15 minutes, leaving the remaining five for questions and discussion.
The medium for presentations will be Microsoft Powerpoint. All lecture theatres are equipped with data projectors and PC computers running Powerpoint. Macintosh facilities are NOT available, and delegates will not be permitted to run presentations from their own computers.
All presentations should be uploaded in advance onto the central server in the IT Suite (number 6 on the campus map, found at the front of this Programme); it is advisable to do this as soon as possible and in plenty of time before your session. Student helpers will be available to help. Details of the location of this room will be in the printed Programme, given to you at the Registration Desk, and your joining instructions. To ensure compatibility with local hardware and software, you might also like to run through your presentation there.
The IT Suite will be open at the following times:
Monday: 15.00 - 20.00
Tuesday: 08.00 - 18.00
Wednesday: 08.00 - 17.00
Thursday: 08.00 - 12.00
Before the start of the session in which you are speaking, please make yourself known to your Session Chair and indicate to them how you would like to be introduced. For multi-author papers, it is essential that you have agreement to present the paper from all of the authors concerned. Please be aware that any cancelled talks will result in gaps in the Programme rather than a restructuring of the session. In the past, restructuring has caused confusion and we seek to avoid such situations.
Information for Poster Presenters
There will be a BES helper available to guide you to your display board, which will be labelled according to numbers printed in this Programme. Presenters will have access to their boards from 13.00 on Monday 6 September; all posters must be removed by 13.30 on Thursday 9 September.
If you have entered your poster for a BES award, there will be an additional identifying brightly coloured sticker on your poster board. Delegates will be invited to vote for their favourite poster based on categories including: visual style, scientific content, originality of research, and effectiveness of communication.
The poster boards are 1m wide x 2m high PORTRAIT (A0). Posters should be attached to the boards by sticky hooks (Velcro) that will be attached to your board. Each poster should include a photograph of the lead author to help delegates identify the presenter. There will be a Poster and Wine session on Tuesday 7 September from 18.20 - 19.30, part sponsored by Wiley-Blackwell, and you are expected to be by your poster at this time to discuss your work with delegates. It is a valuable opportunity to publicise your research and network with potential leads.
