The BES is exceptionally pleased to announce that the 2011 Annual Meeting will be held at Sheffield University - a university renowned for its scientific excellence.

Following on from the first class plenary speakers at the 2010 Annual Meeting, we have already confirmed the speakers for the prestigious BES and Tansley Lectures.

We are also pleased to announce that Journal of Ecology will be holding its Centenary Symposium as part of this year's Annual Meeting.

The BES Lecture

We are delighted to welcome Jules Pretty, OBE, FRSA, FSB to present the BES Lecture.

Professor Jules Pretty is Professor of Environment and Society at the University of Essex; he is also Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability and Resources) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsible for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. For more details on this lecture and Prof Pretty, use this link.

The Tansley Lecture

The BES warmly welcomes Diana Wall, a scientist of the highest repute.

Diana is actively engaged in research to explore how soil biodiversity contributes to healthy, productive soils and thus to society, and the consequences of human activities on soil sustainability. For more details on this lecture and Diana Wall, use this link.

Thematic Topics

We have now confirmed the seven Thematic Topics for the 2011 Annual Meeting. These provide a forum for the discussion of timely and/or important questions, occasionally to provide local 'flavour' within the programme, and to encourage integration between disciplines:
