GUIDANCE NOTES

The 2011 British Ecological Society Annual Symposium 'Forests and Global Change' runs from mid morning on Monday 28 March to mid afternoon on Wednesday 30 March 2011 and is taking place at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

REGISTRATION:

Bookings will not be processed without full payment. Registration prices are: Members £130, Non members £200, Students £25. The registration fee includes the welcome reception on Monday, and teas and coffees throughout the meeting. There was an Early Bird discounted rate if you book online by 28 January 2011.

BES Membership costs £40 (£42 in 2011) or £20 (£21 in 2011) for students, retired or for people from reduced rate countries. Benefits include subsidised Journal subscriptions, 20% off Blackwell Publishing titles, member-only grants as well as reduced registration fees. Membership forms are available from the BES website. Non-members who return a membership form with payment of subscription fees together with the meeting booking, will be eligible for the Members’ registration fee.

Day registration, costing £100, is available from the Registration Desk during the meeting, but anyone who wishes to book the conference dinner or accommodation must book in advance.

If your institution is issuing a cheque for payment, do not rely on your Finance Office to forward your booking form to the BES. On many occasions finance officers have failed to send us forms, which results in obvious problems.

When we receive your booking form, it will be processed and a letter of confirmation plus joining instructions will be emailed to you. You should keep a copy of the completed form for your records. Send your booking form by one method only, do not send copies via both mail and fax. Check your booking confirmation letter against your booking form to ensure that all the meals and accommodation you require have been booked.

MEALS:

Lunch will be served in Selwyn College refectory which is adjacent to the lecture venue. Delegates who have booked lunch will get a £6.00 voucher to spend in the refectory and will be able to top up the amount spent with cash if they so wish. The Conference Dinner is a three course, fixed menu and the price includes ½ bottle of wine.

ACCOMMODATION:

Breakfast is included in the price of accommodation and they are student rooms in Selwyn College. The number of rooms in halls of residence is very limited and bookings are dealt with in order of receipt.

STUDENT SUPPORT:

Only BES Student Members are eligible for the reduced rate registration and a 50% reduction in the costs of lunches, the conference dinner and accommodation booked at Selwyn College through the BES. Please note that students are not eligible for a discount on hotel or any other accommodation.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:

The deadline for abstract submission is 31 January 2011. Unsuccessful oral abstract submissions will be offered a poster slot. If you are submitting abstracts to the meeting you must complete a booking form. See the BES website for full details: www.BritishEcologicalSociety.org/2011symp
