Policy Priorities
Find out more about the British Ecological Society’s current major policy priorities by following the links below.
Selecting our policy priorities
The BES’s policy priorities have been selected for being either; i) issues emerging on the policy horizon, or ii) issues which are advanced in terms of policy but into which scientific input is currently insufficient. See Our Process for more information on how priorities are determined.
Our policy priorities
Our six specific priority policy areas are complementary to the BES’s overarching priorities of promoting scientific evidence in policy-making and fostering interdisciplinarity and knowledge exchange.

The BES aims to inform policy proactively in each policy area by: organising meetings, publishing documents and responding to queries from policymakers.
BES members can receive updates about our work in these areas, and get involved, by joining the BES Expertise Database.
