Blog Editor – Journal of Ecology

We are looking for a creative and passionate Blog Editor to help run the Journal of Ecology Blog.

Journal of Ecology is a high-profile British Ecological Society journal publishing high-impact papers that advance the understanding of all aspects of the ecology of plants and algae as well as their interactions with the biotic and abiotic environment. The journal has a wide international audience and excellent publication metrics, including a current Impact Factor of 5.68.

We are looking for a Blog Editor to help grow our successful Journal of Ecology Blog.

The blog is an excellent vehicle to engage a wider audience: it currently attracts over 20,000 individual readers per year, showcasing published journal content in an accessible format and serving as a platform for discussing topics of more general interest to our readership and the wider ecological community.

The Blog Editor will be responsible for commissioning and/or writing posts for the Journal of Ecology blog with the expectation to contribute 3-4 written posts per month as well as record, edit and publish up to 6 podcasts per year. In addition, the Blog Editor will be responsible for providing content to promote the blog and individual posts via the Journal’s social media accounts.

The Blog Editor will work closely with the Journal’s editorial team and editorial office to determine regular content and develop the blog over the duration of the appointment. In rare cases where there is disagreement over content, the final editorial decisions rest with the editorial office.

We are looking for a researcher with demonstrable relevant previous experience who is active on social media and passionate about communicating exciting new findings in plant ecology.

We welcome applicants from every career stage. We are open to appointing more than one Blog Editor to share the workload and in this case would enable regular communication between the post holders and ensure that the role of each person was clearly defined.

The role is for an initial term of 1 year and unpaid, although benefits for the journal’s Associate Editors will also be extended to this role. This is a remote working position and applicants from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply.

For more information please see the full job description below or contact journal’s Managing Editor, Andrea Baier.
