Senior Editor – Journal of Applied Ecology
We are seeking an ecologist who is highly-motivated in advancing the publication of applied ecological research to join the team of Editors on Journal of Applied Ecology
About the Journal
Journal of Applied Ecology publishes novel, high-impact papers on the interface between ecological science and the management of biological resources. A primary aim of the journal is to drive forward the field of applied ecology by providing a high-quality evidence base for scientists, managers and policymakers. Now in its 56th volume, the journal is online-only and publishes 12 issues a year. The journal has strong citation metrics including a current impact factor of 5.78, a lively blog and social media presence, and is a strong supporter of early career researchers through its Associate Editor mentoring scheme.
We are seeking an ecologist to join the current editorial team, collaborating with the other Editors to continue raising the Journal’s profile and reach worldwide. The Journal’s international editorial team consists of a total of five Editors who are supported by a board of over 80 Associate Editors and dedicated editorial office personnel. The Editors make decisions on the c.1200 manuscripts submitted to the Journal each year and work together to shape journal strategy and development.
The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator who works well as part of a team and a good decision-maker who acts with integrity. They will have a solid understanding of their own field of ecology, as well as an overview of the wider discipline; experience of reviewing and editing processes; a commitment to maintaining the high editorial standards of the Journal; and an interest in ongoing developments within academic publishing. This post is a part-time three-year contract (current salary c. £6,500 per annum which equates to approximately €7,600 or $12,000) and located at the holder’s host university or organisation, based anywhere in the world. Some additional financial support is available to facilitate attendance at meetings with other BES Editors and to act as ambassadors for the Journal at relevant conferences.
The full job description is available below.
We would particularly like to encourage applicants with expertise in aquatic (freshwater and marine) biomes but we welcome and will consider applications from candidates with expertise in any field of applied ecology within the scope of the Journal.
The BES values the benefits that diversity brings. We seek to create an inclusive culture and welcome applications from all sectors of society. We would be happy to consider any reasonable requests in terms of flexibility.
