Abstract

The contents of organic C and fibrous roots were characteristically high in soils under Rhizophora racemosa (5-10% and 11-26% respectively). They were also high at varying depths in some profiles at present under Avicennia germinans or in barren flats, suggesting that at some stage in their development these sites were colonized by R. racemosa.
