A three-dimensional wet sieve for extracting Tipulidae (Diptera) larvae from pasture soil.
Abstract
This apparatus utilized an array of rods to remove vegetation; larvae were then separated from the soil/stones fraction by flotation in saturated brine. This method compared favourably with the Salt-Hollick method in extraction of small and large larvae (Tipula paludosa and Nephrotoma quadrifaria, respectively) from clayey pasture soil cores.
