Abstract

A hole (10 cm diam.) made in the ground to below the min. expected depth of water table and lined with wire mesh contains a polythene bottle 'float' that moves with the water table. A rod attached to the float moves magnetic markers on a scale above ground level; one up (for max.) and one down (for min.). The water level at the time of inspection can be read as well as the max. and min. limits of rise and fall since the previous visit. Construction details are given.
