Abstract

A method is described for producing maps of grassland vegetation from colour slides, using a standard 35 mm camera. The maps were drawn using a modified photographic enlarger and a tilting easel. An example is given in which the maps were used to estimate the proportion and distribution of various invading indigenous grasses in a sown sward of Lolium perenne. The method is recommended as an inexpensive way of obtaining rapid records of vegetation in agronomic and ecological work.
