Abstract

Two models were tested against solar radiation data from a fully-leaved Quercus/Carya forest near Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA. Vertical profiles of solar radiation components were in better agreement with measured values in Norman's spherical model than in de Wit's known inclination model, but both models considerably underestimated the radiation regime because of clumping of the foliage which resulted in incorrect partition between direct and diffuse components.
