Land restoration in China.
Abstract
Present land use in China is described. Problems include: desertification; erosion; salinization; underdeveloped land; and mining dereliction. Remedial action consists of: improvements in use of arid lands; soil and water conservation; shelterbelts establishment; and reclamation of mined land. Improvement of low-productivity arable land is considered to be more profitable than land reclamation. Legislation and policy implementation for land restoration in China is outlined.
