The need for a code of practice for mosquito management in European wetlands.
Abstract
This paper focuses on the importance of European wetlands in providing essential resources to human societies and the major threats to wetlands and their surroundings including urbanization, agricultural intensification, invasive alien species and climate change. The role of mosquitoes as prey for a number of aquatic species and as pollinators in wetland ecosystems are discussed and the importance of building a framework that aims to balance the priorities of wetland conservation and mosquito control are presented.
