12 Months in Ecology
Thursday 26 November

15:00 UK time / 10:00 US Eastern Time / 23:00 China Standard Time

Jane Hill of the University of York will be giving her plenary talk as a curtain-raiser for our Festival of Ecology online conference in December. Jane will be giving the annual ’12 Months in Ecology’ talk, reviewing ecological science in 2020 and giving her personal take on the big developments and achievements in a year like no other.

What a challenging year 2020 has been! The global pandemic is having a huge impact on us as ecologists, both in terms of preventing us from carrying out lab and field work activities, as well as emphasising how crucial the natural environment is to everything we do. The huge inequalities in our communities have also been highlighted. I have been inspired by the Ecology Live! talks that have challenged and informed us over the summer, with amazing science from fabulous researchers. My talk will be a personal reflection of some of the topics raised by the speakers, as well as my thoughts about the big ecological questions and challenges we have faced over the past 12 months, and looking to the future.

The talk will last 25 minutes with the opportunity for questions, and is aimed at everyone with an interest in the latest research in ecology and its applications.

Registration deadline: 17:00 (GMT), Wednesday 25 November

Please note: Festival of Ecology delegates will automatically be registered for this talk.
