What is the the Welsh Policy Group?
The Welsh Policy Group (WPG) was launched in 2015, with the aim of promoting the use of ecological knowledge in Wales and supporting the involvement of ecologists in all levels of Welsh policymaking. The WPG brings together BES members and people working in Welsh environmental policy to highlight and promote how knowledge can aid policymakers’ with decision-making.
What do we do?
As a BES group, the WPG presents scientific evidence rather than campaigning on particular issues. Our reactive work includes responding to consultations that concern Wales and engaging with the Welsh Government and other groups on particular issues. We operate within a wider proactive model for BES policy work, so we also focus on identifying key policy opportunities to increase impact. This includes conducting horizon scanning and Caffi Ecology (previously called Pie and a Pint) which identify future important policy developments and forge connections between different stakeholders. Policy trainings and policy guides aim to give ecologists the skills and knowledge to engage with policy making independently.
If you have any questions about the group, or would like to suggest a collaboration with the WPG on a particular event or project, then please get in touch with Rebecca Walley, Policy Officer: rebecca@britishecologicalsociety.org
