Abstract

A classification system for the land-use survey to be conducted as a basis for management planning in the Luangwa Valley is described. The classification is based on aerial photographs and information from surveys of the geology, vegetation and soils of a sample area. Nine landscape patterns (land systems) were recognized in the sample area and they and their component landforms (land facets) and the rocks, soils and vegetation of the land facets are described and illustrated.
