Abstract

Shoots of Calluna vulgaris were covered in a thin layer of gypsum which held sufficient water to give good estimates of evaporation rate and surface temperature in a wind tunnel and an assimilation chamber. The relationship between boundary layer resistance to water vapour transfer and wind speed, and the magnitude of the transfer resistance values, supported the suggestion that the technique provided valid estimates cif the water vapour transfer resistance of plants with complex structure.-R.B.
