Abstract

A liquid displacement method is described for rapid measurement of volumes of individual detached leaves or other small plant parts with an accuracy of at least ± 0.01 ml. If estimates of leaf area and fresh and dry weights were also taken, calculations could be made of mean leaf thickness, air space and specific leaf volume. Data are given on leaves of groundnuts, cotton and Crotalaria júncea using a 100: 45 mixture of isobutyl alcohol and ethylene glycol as the measuring liquid.-R.B.
