Dung as an insect food source: dung beetles as competitors of other coprophagous fauna and as targets for predators.
Abstract
The coprophagous insects of Australia are discussed in relation to the constituents of cattle dung and the requirements of the insects. The effect of Coprids on populations of dung-breeding flies and on the dung medium is noted, and the likely role of dung beetles as a target for predators is briefly reviewed.
