Abstract

Studies on sand-dune vegetation at Aberffraw, Anglesey containing car tracks, footpaths and sheep walks showed that a number of species, including Poa pratensis, indicated trampling. Glasshouse experiments with Festuca rubra indicated that whereas damage to shoots by vehicles was detrimental to the plants, soil compaction was advantageous in this habitat.
