Abstract

A reconstruction of rate of spread, frontal-fire intensity and fuel consumption for the Galatea fire of Aug. 1936 in the Alberta foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Tree mortality, seed dispersal distance into the burn (for Picea engelmannii, the main species), and condition of the seedbed are discussed in relation to these fire behaviour variables.
