Abstract

Water pollution and water shortage are two of the most important environmental problems in China. Water pollution in China started in the 1950s and has become worse since the 1970s. Rivers, lakes, oceans and groundwater are all polluted to different extents. Since the early 1970s, management and control measures have been introduced to control the spread of water pollution. Industries with underdeveloped, or even no, waste treatment facilities in thousands of small towns and the countryside are new sources of pollution problems. Water shortage is becoming important in northern China. Among the many measures being used to alleviate this , wastewater re-use is feasible and economic.
