Towards a consistent monitoring and evaluation system for nature management. Part II: evaluation of the suitability of data from the Approach for monitoring and evaluating of the nature network and Natura 2000/PAS for reports from the Nature Pact.

Abstract

The use of Dutch data from ecological monitoring systems to report according to the regulations of the Nature Pact is outlined. The ambitions for nature policy, especially at provincial level, to assess nature quality of the Dutch Nature Network are not yet formulated enough according to the SMART rules to allow a clear monitoring framework. Further clarification of these ambitions and its linking to international ambitions is recommended. More cooperation is required between the many different monitoring networks already existing in the country.
