Protected areas

Our report on protected areas and nature recovery in the UK.

White chalk cliffs and sea

The UK government has pledged to protect 30% of our land and seas by 2030 to support the recovery of nature, otherwise known as the 30×30 target.

A suite of area-based conservation measures, including protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures will be essential towards achieving this target. This landmark report provides an overview of the available ecological evidence for using these areas as a tool for reversing biodiversity declines.
