Join our Teaching and Learning Special Interest Group

Our Teaching and Learning Special Interest Group (SIG) is looking for their next Finance Officer!

The SIGs are discipline-specific arms of the Society that are run by motivated volunteers from academia, charity, government, education, and industry. The SIGs’ remit is to engage BES members and non-members associated with a specific area of ecology, and develop activities that meet the broad strategic aims of the Society. The Society funds SIG activities, as well as providing advice and support. In return, SIG activities should proactively engage members, raise the profile of the BES, and promote it as a dynamic and inclusive society.

We have an exciting opportunity available to act as the Finance Officer for the Teaching and Learning Group. The SIG is relatively new but has already run several successful events and will have a significant profile at the forthcoming Annual Meeting. This is an exciting time to join the committee as we head into our second full year of activities. Being part of our SIG also gives you the opportunity to work more closely with BES staff, who are able to provide support and advice using their experience to ensure that your events are as successful as possible.

As the finance officer you will be responsible for

• Keeping accounts of all the SIG activities throughout the year
• Managing claims associated with SIG events
• Working with the SIG secretaries to ensure that event proposals, reports and budgets are complete, and submitted to the BES within two months of the event and before the September budget deadline
• Keeping up to date records of the SIG committee members
• Contributing to the strategy of the SIG
• Actively contributing to committee meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for the SIG outside the BES
