Vote for REED in the National Diversity Awards

The REED Network has been nominated for the National Diversity Awards. The awards celebrate the achievements of grass-root communities that tackle the issues in today’s society, providing them with recognition for their dedication and hard work.

The REED Network, formed in 2020, supports ecologists from all communities affected by systemic racism. The network offers peer support and training, which aims to break down barriers impeding career progression. They also highlight and address instances of racism within the ecological sector and act as a source of inspiration for the next generation of ecologists.

Shining a light on inspirational diversity champions, like the REED Network, is critically important for the environmental sector. This sector is the second-least diverse sector in the UK, after farming and agriculture. People of Colour make up only 4.81% of environmental professionals compared to 12.64% of overall UK Workforce.

There is a huge amount of work to do in addressing racism in the environment sector, but the REED Network are leading the way. In just three years they have had a huge impact and we are thrilled to have their work recognized with a nomination for this award.

Part 2

We need to shine a light on diversity champions in the environment sector because it is lagging behind in ethnic diversity and failing to make use of the passion and talents that the diverse communities of the UK can provide. The sector is the second-least diverse sector in the UK, after farming and agriculture.
